350 HUMBOLDT SUPPORTS CLIMATE ACTION FOR THE NORTH COAST

Welcome to 350 Humboldt!

We’re part of a bigger global family known as 350.org. “350” refers to 350 parts per million (ppm), which scientists have identified as the safe upper limit of carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration in the atmosphere. Beyond this level, the planet is more susceptible to the devastating effects of global warming and climate change.

The organization “350.org” was named after this crucial threshold. Their goal is to raise awareness about the urgent need to reduce CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere from current levels (which have already surpassed 400 ppm – see current ppm here) back down to 350 ppm or lower to ensure a stable and safe climate.

Mission Statement

We promote 350.org‘s core mission of keeping fossil fuels in the ground and reducing the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere while transitioning to a just, low-carbon economy. We believe that a global grassroots movement can hold our leaders accountable to the realities of science and the principles of justice, and promote solutions that will ensure a better future for all.

Relationship to 350.org

350 Humboldt operates as an affiliate of 350.org. This means we often synchronize our efforts and actions with them; however, we maintain our independence without any legal or financial connections to the international organization.

Steering committee
Guiding our initiatives and actions is the 350 Humboldt Steering Committee. This dedicated team consists of Dan Chandler, Laura Simpson, and Diane Ryerson. Their combined expertise and passion drive our regional efforts and ensure we remain true to our mission.
