POSTERS
Can you help put up Line 3 Posters in Eureka, Arcata and McKinleyville? This is what the posters look like.
Here is information about the Line 3 pipeline protests right now.
- Line 3 would carry tar sands from Alberta to Wisconsin, and add millions of tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere each year.
- Line 3’s construction harms indigenous communities. It violates treaty rights, threatens food sources, and endangers sacred sites.
- Line 3 owner Enbridge has had more than 1,200 oil spills since 1996, including one of the most catastrophic in American history.
Line 3 could be stopped if big banks don’t renew their loans to Enbridge at the end of this month. Enbridge has three bank loans, worth nearly $5 billion, that are up for renewal on July 22nd. Putting up the posters is part of a national protest asking the banks to stop funding the Line 3 pipeline when their loans expire
The local banks which fund Enbridge are Chase, Bank of America, Citi, and Wells Fargo. We would like to put the posters up near these banks. If you live near a branch of one of these banks could you put up a poster or two? You could also put them in your front window or on local bulletin boards (at the bottom). They have room at the bottom or top to write in a small amount of information or a URL to get more information (www.stopline3.org).
Please email steering committee member Dan Chandler at [email protected] for directions to the house in Eureka where the posters are available. They are on the porch, and there are 180, so there should be plenty.
LETTERS/PETITIONS
Do you have technical skills regarding emissions? If so, please consider responding to this proposed rule.
“Emission Limits for Existing Petroleum Refinery Hydrogen Plants: By the Effective Date, an owner or operator of a petroleum refinery hydrogen plant shall not vent to the atmosphere any emissions containing more than 6.8 kilograms (15 pounds) per day and 300 parts per million by volume (ppmv) TOC, as methane, on a dry basis determined as specified in Section 13-5-601. A source shall be considered in violation of this section if the TOC emissions measured in accordance with Sections 13-5-501 and 601 by any of the referenced test methods exceed the standards of this Rule.”
Is this a reasonable limit? There is a lot more detail on the timing and procedures in the rule to consider.

CENTER FOR BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY
PG&E’s Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant will soon be decommissioned — and now’s the time to weigh in on the fate of the stunning 12,000 acres of undeveloped coastal lands around the power plant. This incredible 14-mile stretch of coast harbors rare wildlife like California red-legged frogs and steelhead trout.
The lands now owned by PG&E should be spared from development and protected for wildlife habitat and public access. The Center has joined more than two dozen local, state and national organizations to draft a conservation framework for the Diablo Canyon lands, which was submitted to PG&E as part of the plant’s decommissioning process.
Prior to their transfer to any future owner, PG&E must attach conservation easements to these lands to ensure the protection of the unique ecological, scenic, cultural and other resources found there.

Activists led by 350 Europe have been targeting the European Central Bank and its President Christine Lagarde for 18 months with protests, petitions, open letters, and more demanding that the bank drops its own fossil fuel assets, and sets rules for private banks to cut the flow of finance to fossil fuels. This win belongs to them and we’re extremely grateful and proud.
Now it’s time that we in the United States follow their lead. This summer, we’re launching an all-out campaign calling on the Federal Reserve to cut off financing for fossil fuels, and we’re going to need your help.
If the goal of the Fed is to manage “risk” to our economy – there simply is no greater threat than climate collapse.

If you are unable to poster, you can… Email bank CEOs now to tell them to drop Line 3.
NATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR TRANSIT JUSTICE
Democrats can eliminate the filibuster with a simple majority vote. It’s long past time they did it. Our coalition is trying to get to 150,000 signers before the Senate starts votes on the American Jobs Plan. Can you help us reach the goal and add your name right now?
A recent report from the International Energy Agency makes the science on fossil fuels and climate change exceedingly clear – to protect a livable planet, we need to “end new oil, gas and coal funding.”
Not just that, but the latest science shows that we have more than enough renewable energy potential to power our societies and economies.
That means we don’t need new oil wells, new fracked gas fields, and new coal mines. We don’t need new pipelines, refineries, and gas hook ups.
It means we need to start addressing the climate emergency with the urgency required.
