This is an important time to write letters to the Arcata City Council and the Arcata Planning Commission about the Gateway Project. (Contact info below). If you support it (as the 350 Steering Committee does), we need to let them know. If you have concerns, this is a crucial time to give input and make suggestions. There are two opportunities for input coming up.

First, discussion will occur at the Planning Commission at 4 PM Thursday, August 4. You should be able to offer in-person comments at this meeting.

Second, there will be a Gateway Study Session of the Council and Commission on August 23rd where they will be asking questions of staff. I was told that there probably be very limited community input at the meeting but that letters sent ahead of time would be very helpful.

The most impactful and helpful letters are:

-Short and easy to read

-Targeted to specific aspects of the Gateway

-Constructive (offer alternative solutions or ideas)

If you support increased housing, infill development, walkable cities, let them know.

If you support form-based code and ministerial review, let them know. (If you don’t know what those are, there is an excellent video on City of Arcata website or ask me. I can try to give a simple explanation).
