Climate bills SB 53 and SB 61 need your help because the fossil fuel lobbyists are out in full force to kill them. Here are some quick actions we ask you to take before the bills are heard in committee on July 10th:
SB 253 is sponsored by California Environmental Voters. Their website [https://www.envirovoters.org/sb-253-climate-corporate-leadership-accountability-act/ ] has a fact-sheet.

What to say: SB 253 (Wiener) requires all billion dollar U.S.-based corporations doing business in California to publicly disclose their full carbon footprint in a way that is easily understandable and available to the public. Without this information, California is left without the information needed to regulate, and consumers are left in the dark about the climate impacts of their business decisions. Giant corporations are hiding their contribution to the climate crisis. Please vote yes for SB 253 and increase transparency and accountability. (Use your own words or just leave this message.)
SB 261 is sponsored by several national organizations, including Ceres. What to do?
- Call Asm Jim Wood: (916) 319-2002
- Email Asm Jim Wood: go to https://a02.asmdc.org/contact to write an email
What to say: SB 261 (Stern) would require corporations with over five hundred dollars in revenues to make a report each year disclosing the entity’s climate-related financial risk and measures taken to reduce and adapt to climate-related financial risk. The public and stockholders need to know which companies are at will be subject to losses as the climate crisis progresses. Please vote yes for SB 261 and increase transparency and accountability. (Use your own words or just leave this message.)
You can speak to both bills in one phone call or one email.
Thanks very much.

VOTE FORWARD – New program in Ohio

POSTCARDS TO SWING STATES — New program for fall elections
In Virginia, we’ll write to rally Democrats to vote in 42 competitive state legislative districts this November. Democrats hold a narrow majority in the state Senate and Republicans hold a narrow majority in the House of Delegates. In Kentucky, our postcards will help Democratic Governor Andy Beshear win re-election in November.
Sign up HERE.
You’ll need to provide your own postcards and stamps for this program. We recommend progressivepostcards, an online store that sells postcards with several of our designs for less than most sellers. We’ll add designs specific to Virginia and Kentucky before sign-ups start, but you can buy general designs there anytime. After you sign up, we’ll email you a list of voters and instructions, which will include an October mailing date and three short message options.
FREDERICA AALTO
Another way to participate is to work with Frederica Aalto:
“I am administering a postcarding network in Humboldt County (presently over 300 writers) and we supply postcards and stamps to writers, which are available for cost at several convenient pickup locations. Have anyone interested in joining us contact me.”
