Thousands of New Jersey residents, Rutgers University students and faculty attended a rally in New Brunswick joined by Highland Park high school students and residents in support of the global climate strike “Fridays for Future”. There were several speeches and performances by various climate activists, students and professors demanding Rutgers to develop a climate action plan, divest from fossil fuels, establish an Office of Sustainability and commit to a net-zero carbon emission by 2030. After the rally the sizable crowd peacefully marched to Rep. Frank Pallone’s office taking over Church Street demanding the Congressman to support the Green New Deal and return fossil fuel campaign contributions he received and to refuse to accept fossil fuel contributions in the future.
