This week we would especially like to welcome members of Climate Action California to our weekly letter and postcard writing group. We meet every Sunday at 7pm on Zoom for some conversation and climate action in the form of signing petitions and writing get-out-the-vote letters and cards. Sometimes we pick state and local officials to send individual communications to. Since May 2020 we have sent over 10,000 letters or postcards to potential climate voters. Please join CAC affiliate 350 Humboldt in writing for the future.

JOIN THE 350 HUMBOLDT LETTER WRITING GROUP AT 7PM SUNDAY JANUARY 22 to chat while we write to elect a climate-affirming Wisconsin Supreme Court. Get your list of voters to write from Activate America in advance (see immediately below).

GET OUT THE VOTE CAMPAIGN: Activate America

Thank you to all of you who have been postcarding with us in the lead up to the April 4th election to determine the future of the Wisconsin State Supreme Court.

It might be the most important election of 2023, but don’t take our word for it. Here’s what the New York Times has to say:

“Arguably the most important election in America in 2023 is the April 4 contest for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The winner will determine whether conservatives or liberals hold a 4-to-3 majority in a critical presidential battleground state. Wisconsin Democrats want to overturn the state’s 1849 law prohibiting abortion in nearly all cases and end an aggressive legislative gerrymander drawn by Republicans. This election is liberals’ last chance for a while; if conservatives win the seat, they will hold a majority on the court until at least 2026.”

Also potentially on the docket: voting rights, election integrity, and so much more.

Want to get involved? Sign up for a postcarding list today, and consider supporting our work with a donation today.

Postcards need to be in by February 10th.

Evergreen and NDRC free strategy session

President Biden made a pledge to the American people to achieve 100% clean electricity by 2035, and together with NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council), we’re revealing the roadmap Biden can use to get us there.

Want to learn about the roadmap and hear how you can help get the U.S. to 100% clean power?

Join me and our line-up of climate champions for “Evergreen Action and NRDC Present: Roadmap to 100% Clean Power”, airing live next Tuesday, January 24 at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT.

PETITIONS

NRDC

Climate change is fueling both extreme floods and extreme droughts in rapid succession, destroying communities and threatening their safety. In order to meet this moment, we need immediate investments in sustainable water infrastructure and resilience, and ongoing investments in cutting emissions.

Send a message to state leaders urging them to pass strong climate and health measures that will help change California’s trajectory.

We urgently need to invest in these solutions — but Governor Newsom just released a budget proposal that would slash billions of dollars from climate and other environmental programs. If passed, this would take California in the wrong direction — locking us into more carbon emissions and paving the way for more extreme weather.

This is a clear reminder of the importance of our work ahead this year. It’s critical that we continue the drumbeat demanding our elected leaders rise to the moment and protect our health and environment.

Tell your state leaders we can’t afford to backslide on climate and health initiatives — we must go full steam ahead.

Public Citizen

It seems like a really bad idea to build a crude oil pipeline through an earthquake zone, right next to the second-largest freshwater lake in the world.

But that’s the plan for the proposed East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).

Even though public pressure from people like you convinced 22 major insurers to drop out of the project, developers show no signs of stopping and thousands of people are at risk of losing their lands to make way for its construction.

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline is dangerous for human health and the health of the planet. So we need to stop it before construction begins.

Please, send a message to senior leadership at top multinational insurance companies and urge them to commit that they will NOT insure the East African Crude Oil Pipeline.
