The 350 Humboldt steering committee would like to invite you to join our email list and participate in our actions to reduce climate change. (Are you already receiving 350 Humboldt emails? Then please ignore this email.)

You recently signed an on-line petition to Governor Newsom asking him to prohibit new fracking permits. That petition was organized by several southern California 350 chapters. They have sent along to us the email addresses of petition-signers who live or work in Humboldt County. We are asking you to join with us in fighting climate change in the world and particularly in Humboldt County.

Here is our mission statement: We promote 350.org‘s core mission of keeping fossil fuels in the ground and reducing the amount of carbon in the atmosphere while transitioning to an equitable, low-carbon economy. We believe that a global grassroots movement can hold our leaders accountable to the realities of science and the principles of justice, and create the solutions that will ensure a better future for all.

We are an affiliate of 350.org, which was founded specifically to address climate change and now has hundreds of chapters around the world. If you check out the 350.org website you will see a map of all 350 chapters and, more importantly, the issues and campaigns that unite us. They include the overarching goal of replacing fossil fuels with renewables; and the newly pertinent goal of a green and just recovery from the Covid-19 crisis.

350 Humboldt participates in campaigns organized by 350.org or campaigns in which 350.org is part of a coalition, like Stop the Money Pipeline. During the Covid-19 crisis, actions from home have assumed a new prominence. One of these was to create four videos for Earth Day on April 22nd and Stop the Money Pipeline day on April 23rd. You can see these videos on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/350humboldt/.  We also have a webpage at https://world.350.org/humboldt/. On it you can see a some of our local action success stories. You can also follow us on Twitter and Instagram. https://twitter.com/350Humboldt https://www.instagram.com/350humboldt/  (And if you think we don’t post often enough, we welcome contributions.)

We would like to have you on our email list. You will receive a Newsflash once or twice a month (samples are on our website) plus a notice of meetings and of actions you can take. Right now the actions are mostly petition or letter campaigns. Ordinarily we get together once a month in the meeting room of a local restaurant. We will let you know when we are able to meet in person again.

If you don’t want to be on the 350 Humboldt mailing list now, or anytime in the future, you can just hit the “Unsubscribe” link on this email or any of our emails. Or you can send a note to [email protected].

Likewise, if you have questions you can use the same email address. And if you would like to chat with a steering committee member about the group, please email us with your phone number.

Thanks for your support of climate action. We hope we’ll get to know you over the next few months. A first chance for that will come at our virtual Taco Party and general meeting, to be held via Zoom on May 21 at 6 pm. Our own Katy Gurin serves as Master of Ceremonies, you supply the tacos. Reply to this email and we’ll send you the link to our virtual meeting the day before.
