Today is the deadline to take the Humboldt County draft Climate Action Plan survey. Please share your feedback through this online survey on what actions we should take to meet state-assigned greenhouse gas reduction goals.

Here’s the survey link: https://humboldtgov.org/2464/Climate-Action-Plan

A little background: the Climate Action Plan (CAP) for Humboldt County and its cities has been flopping along for years. At this point we will have only five years instead of ten to achieve greenhouse gas reduction goals for 2030. The actual CAP will be out in June or July in draft form. This “survey” is unlikely to affect the CAP itself, and, since the sample is not representative of any particular population, it should have no effect. Still, for climate advocates it serves a couple of purposes.

The “survey” gives you a chance to choose emissions reductions measures from 24 offered. The reductions have to total to at least 160,000 metric tons of GHG reduction.  We urge you to take the survey a) because it will let you see in a concrete way the kinds of measures the CAP will be considering and b) because it raises numerous questions about the CAP itself. We will be discussing those questions and the survey at our general meeting on June 5th.  So if we fill out the survey and attend the general meeting we can learn a lot more about the actions we can take here in Humboldt to reduce GHG emissions, and we will be preparing for the discussions of the CAP itself.

Thanks,
