The Arcata City Council wants to hear from you about what’s important in a new City Council member to replace Sophia Pereira, who left the Council last month. The Council plans to appoint a replacement from seven candidates, possibly as soon as this Wednesday evening, July 28.
This is an important time for climate activists in Arcata. Humboldt County’s draft Climate Action Plan will be released any day now, and Arcata’s official support is vital if we are to have the strongest plan possible to cut local carbon emissions.
Arcata has made it easy for you to weigh in. Here is an online form for you to submit your opinions and a question for the seven candidates for the post. A sample question might be something like “Can I count on your support for Arcata joining the regional Climate Action Plan that Humboldt County’s Planning Department is currently preparing?”
The form must be submitted by 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. You can also attend Wednesday’s meeting, either in person at the Arcata City Hall, beginning at 6:00 p.m., or on Zoom at this link. More information on the meeting is available at cityofarcata.org.
We hope that you’ll tell Arcata’s prospective leaders that protecting the climate is important to you, and to support a strong Climate Action Plan.
Thanks for your action!
