TONIGHT MONDAY SEPTEMBER 30, 7 P.M ON ZOOM:
Offshore Wind Development in Humboldt County: A Conversation with RWE and Vineyard Offshore
There is the big picture of offshore wind – the turbines, the transmission and procurement of energy from them, and the role offshore wind will play in the energy transition. There is also the personal and community side. Join representatives of RWE and Vineyard as they describe how they got interested in offshore wind, their backgrounds in the community, some of the challenges and opportunities for our communities and their perspectives on the big picture.
Erik Peckar is Vineyard Offshore’s West Coast Director of External Affairs. Erik is responsible for all aspects of local government and stakeholder engagement associated with Vineyard Offshore’s floating projects off the West Coast, principally the development of lease area OCS-P 0562, west of Humboldt Bay in Northern California. Prior to joining Vineyard Offshore, Erik had been general manager of Vineyard Power Cooperative, on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Vineyard Power is a member-owned nonprofit organization dedicated to producing electricity from local, renewable resources while advocating for and keeping the benefits within the island community.

Ciara Emery is the Local Government and Stakeholder Engagement Manager for the Canopy Offshore Wind Farm. She has lived and worked in the North Coast for 10 years and came to RWE from Congressman Jared Huffman’s office where she served in Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity, and Sonoma Counties. She is a Cal Poly Humboldt alumna and completed her master’s thesis in coordination with Schatz Energy Research Center on the community considerations of offshore wind.
