Aldaron Laird will present “King Tides on Humboldt Bay: A Preview of Sea Level Rise” on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom.
Mr. Laird has been mapping and studying Humboldt Bay (Wigi) for many years and brings a unique perspective to the issue of sea level rise, having circumnavigated and studied the entire Humboldt Bay shoreline over the past 20 years. He has promoted a regional approach to sea level rise planning for the last 10 years.

This week is crucial. We are finally seeing Senate Democratic leadership put a real and final deadline in front of their Republican colleagues and the more-moderate members of their own caucus, Senators Manchin and Sinema. Schumer is centering this fight for voting rights around the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and demanding a decision on whether or not we advance the incomparable yet incomplete legacy of the struggle for civil rights that Dr. King is remembered for.

STOP THE MONEY PIPELINE
One of the most egregious examples of fossil fuel expansion is happening in St. James, Louisiana, where Formosa Plastics is trying to build a massive new petrochemical complex on the banks of the Mississippi River.

Corporations like PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble, and Tyson are driving forest destruction from Indonesia to the Amazon. That’s why a new bill in Congress, the Forest Act, proposes to ban companies from importing ingredients linked to illegal forest destruction. But these same corporations could doom the Forest Act if they’re not stopped. I’m counting on you to fight back against Big Industry and demand they get on board with the Forest Act or get out of the way.

CENTER FOR BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY
On his way out the door, Trump unleashed a brazen assault on Alaska’s Tongass National Forest. By exempting it from the protection of the Roadless Rule, he opened more than 9 million of its pristine acres to clearcut logging and road building. Now the Biden administration has proposed to right that wrong.
You can help by speaking up for the full restoration of protection to the Tongass.

NEW POSTCARD CAMPAIGN FOR WISCONSIN VOTERS

We are writing to likely Democrats in Wisconsin to let them know Democrats delivered on their promises with the new Infrastructure and Jobs Act. Wisconsin is widely considered to be the most vulnerable state in the Democrats’ “blue wall” for presidential elections. Then-candidate Joe Biden narrowly won the state in 2020 after Donald Trump won in 2016. But Republican Senator Ron Johnson is increasingly out of touch with reality.
Many voters do not pay attention to their elected officials’ voting records. Join Activate America (formerly Flip the West) as we write to Wisconsin voters and let them know how Johnson is voting against their interests.
You may also chose to write a similar message to voters in key CA congressional districts in Spanish or in English.

PROGRESSIVE TURNOUT PROJECT CAMPAIGN
Write postcards to first-time voters in ten states with key Senate races in 2022. Help us make sure Democrats stay engaged and make voting a habit in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
We’ll send you postcards, addresses and instructions. You provide stamps and mail the cards to voters before the Jan. 7, 2022 deadline.
Voters who receive handwritten postcards are significantly more likely to vote. In 2020, our volunteers sent 21 million postcards to voters in 14 swing states, and we saw incredible results!

I am administering a postcarding network in Humboldt County (presently over 300 writers) and we supply postcards and stamps to writers, which are available for cost at several convenient pickup locations. We mostly postcard for ROV (Reclaim Our Vote), which is non-partisan, but have also postcarded for Activate America (which used to be called Flip the West), which is partisan.
