CalPoly Humboldt is sponsoring both streaming and live events that we think will be of interest to 350 Humboldt members. Below is the announcement from Maia Cheli.

I wanted to invite you and your members to our February 23 talk on 44 Feet: Vulnerabilities, Opportunities, and Strategies for Managing Risk from Sea-Level Rise to Humboldt Bay’s Spent Nuclear Fuel Site. Jennifer Marlow of Environmental Studies here at Cal Poly Humboldt will be joined by Alexander Brown, to share their joint research on potential impact scenarios and community-driven strategic response.
This webinar is free and open to all, and will run from 5:30-7:00 pm. There will be a Q&A discussion period, and I expect that your insights and questions would be well received. For folks who cannot attend, we will have an event recording posted sometime the following week to our youtube channel.
Upcoming in March:
  • On Wednesday, March 1, we welcome you to join us for a symposium on Rural & Tribal Community Resilience: Strategies for Action. This event is part of the SAFE project — a collaboration of the Blue Lake Rancheria Tribe, the Karuk Tribe, and the Schatz Energy Research Center. The symposium will bring together Tribal leaders and community members, students and researchers, local government and state agency representatives, and others working on efforts related to smoke, air, fire, and energy (SAFE), with a goal of enhancing rural and Tribal climate resilience. The program includes speaker and panel discussions of clean energy, cultural fire, and air quality; microgrid tours and a solar training workshop; and collaborative group conversations. The event will run from 10-4:30 pm at the Blue Lake Rancheria, and will include a complimentary lunch.
  • On Thursday, March 2, we will host an en banc (joint) meeting of the California Energy Commission and the California Public Utilities Commission: Advancing Clean Energy in Partnership with California Native American Tribes. This is the state’s first en banc to focus on Tribal energy goals. The meeting will be held in the Native American Forum (in the BSS building) on the Cal Poly Humboldt campus. The event is open to the public both in person and via livestream; please be aware that seating for Tribal leadership will be prioritized in the Forum, and that rsvps are strongly encouraged. Overflow seating will be available in the Great Hall on campus as necessary.
If you have any questions about your participation in these events, feel free to contact me directly. For general registration questions, please see the contact info on each link above.
I hope that you are all weathering well after the events of December and January. Here’s hoping for more rain, but gentler this time. And thanks for all you do for our community and the environment!
All the best,
Maia
