Dear 350 Humboldt Members.
350 Humboldt, along with other environmental organizations, has tried to get the massive new Cutten subdivision on the McKay tract to be climate friendly: To minimize greenhouse gas emissions, to reduce vehicle miles traveled, to promote walking and biking, and other changes consistent with the County General Plan and CEQA. Unfortunately the Final EIR has come out and the planning department staff have brushed all objections aside. You can find the draft EIR at https://humboldtgov.org/2755/North-McKay-Ranch. The staff report and final EIR are at https://humboldt.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=5370336&GUID=8CF68FC9-71F5-49F9-B670-CA4C7F5408C7&Options=&Search=

The McKay subdivision is the first substantive item on the agenda.
CEQA may seem like a magic process, but it boils down to our representatives voting on what kind of community we want to live in and how to protect ourselves from climate change.
