For some time we have been trying to find ways to involve and support young people in climate action. In May we heard that the Sierra Club SF Bay Chapters’ Climate Literacy Committee together with Ten Stands and Undaunted K12 are creating a new statewide Youth Climate Policy Program/internship open to 9-12 graders (rising) starting this summer and running through Dec, 2023.
350 Humboldt contacted local schools in hopes that some Humboldt high schoolers will apply. Thirty spots were anticipated but 150 applications were received. Here is a description of the program:
The organizations are now looking for mentors for the youth leaders. (Most of the activities will be virtual.) One 350 Humboldt member with previous experience working on climate with young people has applied to be a mentor and if this is where your interests lie we would encourage you to apply at:
Although we don’t know yet if any Humboldt students will be among this first group of interns, our 350 Humboldt steering committee has voted to support the effort financially. We would like to send at least $500 to support participation by at least one youth leader. If we receive more than $500 it will also go directly to the stipends the youth leaders receive.
Please support the youth leader mentorship program!
Please send your check to the 350 Humboldt treasurer:
