Here’s a different take: Mothers Out Front has a letter writing zoom party for letters to the editor. We’re on a roll! Our LTE writing party last month led to THREE published letters to the editor in two days! That makes EIGHT letters to the editor since the first writing party in October! Been putting off writing a letter to the editor? Join us for a fun way to get your voice heard! Come get tips and draft a letter to the editor (LTE) of your own on a climate topic important to you in the supportive company of mothers and allies. Register here to get the Zoom link.
You’ll learn how to write a top-notch letter-to-the-editor, and then write your own letter about climate change to submit online. We’ll discuss how to choose your topic, and how to be persuasive while keeping it short. In just one hour you can make an impact while meeting other moms who care about the climate crisis as much as you do!!

Electrify the US Post Office’s fleet of vehicles
In spite of concerted objections from the Environmental Protection Agency, the White House Council on Environmental Quality, the California Air Resources Board, and a raft of Democratic Senators, DeJoy has doubled down on his climate-ignorant plan to replace most of the nation’s aging fleet of mail delivery trucks with gas-guzzlers that are barely more efficient than the current 30-year old, 10 mpg fleet.
SIERRA CLUB
When Scott Dam was constructed on the Eel River in 1922, it blocked passage of anadromous fish, including salmon and steelhead, while simultaneously forming Lake Pillsbury, a 2,000-acre reservoir in remote northwestern Lake County. PG&E’s license to generate hydropower from what it calls the Potter Valley Project will expire on April 14, potentially presenting significant risks and liabilities to local communities and the environment if the infrastructure is not maintained, and the utility has declared that it will not seek renewal.
The only option remaining is for FERC to order PG&E to begin license surrender and initiate the decommissioning processes and to do so immediately, because the few native fish that remain don’t have any time to spare.
Please join us in speaking up for Eel River fish, and all those who rely on their presence in the watershed. Please write to FERC using the sample letter (or write your own) and following the process provided by Friends of the Eel River.

Last year our movement for climate justice made tremendous strides in the fight to defend communities, wildlife and our climate from Big Oil in California. However, as Gov. Newsom prepares for his State of the State address, we need to let him know that his recent actions to curb fossil fuel pollution aren’t enough.
Last year the governor finally proposed a ban on new oil wells within 3,200 feet of places where people live, work and learn. Californians delivered more than 60,000 public comments in support of these protections, demanding they cover new and existing oil wells. With this momentum on our side, let’s make 2022 the year Newsom becomes the climate hero we need and ends permitting for Big Oil’s pollution once and for all.
Send your postcard to Gov. Newsom today.
MEDICAL FOR ALL
We’ve got a special Valentine’s Day message for CVS — and we need your help to deliver it.
Ever since The Intercept revealed that CVS Health quietly donated $5 million to the Partnership for America’s Health Care Future, the number one dark money group fighting Medicare for All, we’ve demanded change.1
That’s why this Valentine’s Day, we’re making a simple request to CVS: quit breaking our hearts by blocking Medicare for All.

For years, big banks have been pouring money into risky fossil fuel investments, ignoring the growing risks of climate change, and putting our own savings at risk. Last month, financial regulators finally began to take action by releasing new guidance for big banks that lays out expectations for their response to climate threats. |

Last week, I emailed you about our efforts to secure a new legally binding global instrument to address the plastic crisis. Now, we are aiming to show decisionmakers that more than a million people support this action. Will you sign your name to join this worldwide call for a global plastics instrument?
In one week from today, the Senate Banking Committee will vote on our slate of five candidates for the Federal Reserve. Then they head to the full Senate for a vote.
We feel pretty confident with our odds, Daniel, but we can’t leave anything up to chance. Your senators need to be on board, which is why we’re asking if you can step up today and send a message to their offices.
EPIC
Help us send a message to Senator McGuire, Assembly Member Wood, and Congressman Huffman! We need our representatives to demand an immediate moratorium on logging in the Jackson Demonstration State Forest (JDSF). JDSF has more registered Native American sacred sites than any other State Forest in California and its coast redwoods store sequester more carbon than any other forest type in the world! This special place should be protected from logging while we work to change its management. |
The EPA is considering whether to permanently kill the Pebble Mine and save Bristol Bay, its wildlife, and the way of life for surrounding Indigenous communities.Send a message to EPA Administrator Michael Regan now in opposition to this disastrous mega-mine.
B. WRITE LETTERS TO VOTERS
There are some new postcard writing and letter writing opportunities. Check them out.

NEW POSTCARD CAMPAIGN FOR WISCONSIN VOTERS:
From Activate America (Formerly Flip the West)
We are writing to likely Democrats in Wisconsin to let them know Democrats delivered on their promises with the new Infrastructure and Jobs Act. Wisconsin is widely considered to be the most vulnerable state in the Democrats’ “blue wall” for presidential elections. Then-candidate Joe Biden narrowly won the state in 2020 after Donald Trump won in 2016. But Republican Senator Ron Johnson is increasingly out of touch with reality.
Many voters do not pay attention to their elected officials’ voting records. Join Activate America (formerly Flip the West) as we write to Wisconsin voters and let them know how Johnson is voting against their interests.
You may also chose to write a similar message to voters in key CA congressional districts in Spanish or in English.

POSTCARD WRITING TO VOTERS ORGANIZED BY HUMBOLDT ACTIVIST FREDERICA AALTO
Here is Frederica describes what they are doing:
I am administering a postcarding network in Humboldt County (presently over 300 writers) and we supply postcards and stamps to writers, which are available for cost at several convenient pickup locations. Have anyone interested in joining us contact me. We mostly postcard for ROV (Reclaim Our Vote), which is non-partisan, but have also postcarded for Activate America (which used to be called Flip the West), which is partisan.
