Environmental Action

The 350 Humboldt Book Club (you can attend our next meeting Monday at 7pm at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87104876080?pwd=Q1Z2Z0d3K3V0UE9EN2Z0TlFweTZndz09 ) recently read a book about beavers. There are beavers in Humboldt County!

Beavers are important ecosystem engineers, especially because half of America’s wetlands have been destroyed. As global warming increases, their services will be needed even more.

Beavers can help restore wetland ecosystems. And when they do, they bring their friends along. Herons, salmon, river otters, frogs, and other critters find new homes after beavers build their dams.

Networks of beaver dams nurture lush green landscapes surrounding ponds and streams. Those dams help filter out water pollution, and crystal clear water flows below the dams.

We can start to thank beavers for cleaner water and flourishing ecosystems by ending hunting and trapping on public lands.

Urge the president to save the beavers.
