Or you can send snailmail to: the Humboldt County Department of Planning and Building, 3015 H Street, Eureka, CA, 95501.

This week’s opportunities to lend a hand to the earth

1.         Congress is now considering a large funding package to support public transit as part of President Biden’s American Rescue Plan. We urge you, as does the National Campaign for Transit Justice, to join us in calling on the Senate to vote for $30 billion for transit as a large downpayment toward full recovery for our communities.

Take a moment to send a message to your Senators and tell them transit is essential to our communities, our lives, and our country’s recovery. https://actionnetwork.org/letters/demand-senate-pass-30-billion-for-public-transit

2.         Check out ways to help fight Line 3

https://linktr.ee/stopline3

Also 350.org asks:

Last week, we hosted a virtual rally where we delivered over 200,000 petition signatures to the Biden Administration demanding that they stop the Line 3 pipeline. Despite our mounting pressure, the Biden Administration hasn’t made any moves to halt construction. It’s unacceptable.

We’re escalating our efforts to #StopLine3 by asking 350 members like you to call your representative in Congress asking them to speak out against Line 3 and pressure Biden to do the same. If thousands of constituents come together to sound the alarm, we can put pressure on Congress to take action and influence Biden’s decision.

Will you call Rep. Jared Huffman: https://act.350.org/call/Rep_line3/?

NRDC:

Tell the Biden-Harris Administration: Shut Down the Dangerous Dakota Access and Line 3 Pipelines Immediately

We won the battle to shut down Keystone XL, but two more disastrous pipelines threaten Indigenous lands, waterways, our environment, and our future. Call on the Biden administration to shut down the Dakota Access Pipeline and halt construction on the Line 3 tar sands pipeline immediately!

3.         Did you know that more than 99 percent of plastic is made from chemicals sourced from fossil fuels, much of which is dirty fracked gas?

Fortunately, with the stroke of a pen, President Biden and his administration can begin to clean up this mess. Sign this petition: https://addup.sierraclub.org/campaigns/urge-president-biden-to-be-a-plasticfreepresident/petition?

4.  “My apologies if you have already done this, but in case you missed my request last week, I’m hoping you can forward the Save California Solar petition to three or more friends. We’re aiming to get 20,000 people to tell Gov. Newsom by April 1 to stop the utility attack on rooftop solar and protect everyone’s right to make solar energy.

Can you help? Here’s a sample note you can email to your contacts (feel free to edit):

Hi, I signed this petition to Governor Newsom to keep rooftop solar growing in California. Will you consider signing it too?

https://solarrights.org/savecaliforniasolar

Utilities are lobbying the state to make it harder and more expensive for people to get solar. They are trying to gut net metering, which lets solar users share their extra solar energy with the neighbors for a bill credit.

We need to make it easier for people to get rooftop solar, as well as solar-powered batteries, so they can control over their energy bills and keep the power on.

Our goal is to get 20,000 messages to the Governor by April 1. Will you consider signing and forwarding to others?

https://solarrights.org/savecaliforniasolar

Thank you for considering it!

5           Companies such as AT&T, CVS, Comcast, Southern Company, Coca-Cola, UPS, Home Depot, and General Motors have donated nearly $400,000 to the co-sponsors of Georgia State House Bill 531 since 2018 alone, which is the most aggressive voter suppression bill since the Jim Crow era.

Home

Just a few months ago, these companies used Black Lives Matter slogans, and as recently as last month, they touted their support of Black History Month using slick marketing campaigns. But their behind-the-scenes actions tell a different story. Their donations support legislators who are intent on disenfranchising voters through the legislation they propose and support, yet these corporations and their leaders then stay silent on the impact of this legislation.

6. Since Mothers Out Front started 8 years ago, I’ve seen countless moms, grandmoms, and other caregivers come together in living rooms, community centers, and Zoom meetings to find the courage, energy and skills needed to advocate effectively for climate justice. As a result, we’ve gotten many elected officials and business leaders to act to protect kids from fossil fuels and climate change.

Imagine what we can achieve in the next 8 years if we take our skills to the next level and keep growing this movement! We’re inviting you to join our first online Leadership Academy to do just that, starting on March 23rd.

Apply to the online Leadership Academy today (or by March 12) to build and deepen your skills to advance powerful climate justice work in your communities.

7. Join Flip the West’s rapid-response postcard campaign as we write to registered Democrats and left-leaning Independents living in districts represented by members of the of Sedition Caucus. We’re letting voters know their Congressman voted to throw out millions of legally cast votes and overturn another state’s election, and that we intend to vote them out of office in 2022. Ready to join the momentum?

We are currently writing to voters in Scott Perry’s district (PA-10) and Richard Hudson’s district (NC-08).

·       We email you a script for our current target, plus names and addresses (a minimum of 25). You supply your own postcards and stamps. (Click here: http://bit.ly/2K7pkFm, for info on buying postcards and stamps.)

·       Please enter the number of names/addresses you want below your contact info. (Enter as a NUMBER, not text).

·       Within 48 hours, look for the email address [name]@ftwpostcards.com with your names/addresses. (Don’t forget to check Spam).

Thank you!
