For the second month we will hold our general meeting in-person at the Gazebo in Larson Park in Arcata. The time is this Thursday, June 22nd at 6 pm.
Our guest speaker is Michael Winkler who has been a leading climate activist for many years. He will speak about the goals and products of his firm Redwood Energy.
Our poet is David Holper, Poet Laureate of Eureka.
Last month was fun and rewarding. However, no chairs are available and the floor is concrete, so bring a camp chair (and warm clothes for coastal evening weather). Please join us.
We hope to see you Thursday. The full agenda is below.
350 Humboldt Steering Committee
350 Humboldt: Grass Roots Climate Action
Agenda: General Meeting June 22nd, Six PM, Larson Park Gazebo
Facilitator: Martha Walden
Notes: Dan Chandler
Present:
Land Acknowledgement: “350 Humboldt would like to acknowledge that where we live and hold our meetings in Humboldt County is on unceded territory and the ancestral homeland of indigenous nations which include Tolowa, Hupa, Karuk, Mattole, Wailaki, Wiyot, and Yurok.
We thank indigenous nations who have been caretakers of the land. Additionally, we recognize that the well-being of all people is bound up with that of indigenous peoples, and we must all take action on the climate.”
Our wish to take action leads us to support a program to create climate mentorships for high-school aged youth climate leaders. The program is jointly administered by the Bay Area Sierra Club climate literacy group and Ten Strands, a non-profit dedicated to k-12 environmental literacy. The first group of approximately 40 mentees will start their mentorships this summer, going through December. Efforts were made to recruit tribal youth. Jamie Blatter, of 350 Humboldt, will be one of the mentors. Through a letter soliciting donations from the 350 Humboldt membership, we are able to send $5,000 to this program allowing another ten kids to participate.
