Colin Fiske of the Coalition for Responsible Transportation Priorities has made a very interesting offer for those who live in Arcata and want to support the Gateway Project – which 350 Humboldt has formally supported.

Please take a look at Colin’s email below and let him know if you are able to participate: [email protected]

Thanks very much.

350 Humboldt

Hi friends,

I have a small favor to ask.
Arcata’s draft Gateway Area Plan is the most bike, pedestrian and climate-friendly land use plan we’ve yet seen in Humboldt County. As you may know, the Arcata Planning Commission is continuing its review of the draft Plan, and has also recently begun reviewing draft language for the (form-based) zoning code that will implement the Plan.
This process began well over a year ago, and it has been very difficult for most people to stay engaged over the course of so many meetings. But it’s really important to keep reminding decision-makers that we support the core features of the plan, in order to ensure that the final documents support the kind of dense, walkable, transit-oriented, climate-friendly development that we need.
I know you’re likely as busy as I am, so I’m going to keep my request simple. Every other week or so – before each Gateway review meeting – can you send in a brief email to the Planning Commission reiterating your support for housing, for density, and for low-car and car-free design?
Your emails don’t need to be detailed or unique to be impactful. They don’t have to take more than 5 minutes to write. Just one or two sentences every few weeks repeating the same themes will make a big difference over time.
If you’re willing to do this, please email me at [email protected], and I will add you to my list. That means I’ll send you a reminder when it’s time to submit a new email, along with a forward of the comments I’m submitting on behalf of CRTP, to give inspiration for things you might say.
Thanks for helping us improve our communities and reduce our region’s biggest source of climate pollution!
