RCCER has sent out the notice below in support of a survey the Arcata Planning Department is doing on architectural design features.  Lots of interesting pictures of what buildings might look like. So if you live in Arcata or think you might at some time take a look.

Hey RCCER! We’ve got a fun and easy action you can take. The City of Arcata has put together a Building Facade and Roof Design Survey. They want to know what kinds of buildings you’d like to see encouraged in the Gateway Area. You can get a sense of what the options are by looking through this Lookbook created by the consultant the City has hired to develop the Gateway Area Plan and Code (the photos start on page 11).

Once you look through the Lookbook and get a sense of what kind of features and designs you like, fill out the survey and let the City know! You’re getting a chance to influence the code before it’s even drafted and what you say will be reflected in the kinds of building facades and roofs allowed in the Gateway Area. There’s an even an option to upload a photo you’ve taken of a building facade or roof that you particularly want or don’t want to see.

Arcata is encouraging more density in part to encourage folks to get out of their cars and live a lower carbon lifestyle. And building this new housing will help tackle the housing affordability crisis. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t like the look and feel of new buildings. And this a chance to let the City know what you want.

You have until January 30th to fill out the survey!
