PREVENT POWER BLACKOUTS AND KEEP EMISSIONS FROM GAS POWER PLANTS TO A MINIMUM BY JOINING OHM CONNECT AND GETTING A FREE SMART THERMOSTAT WORTH $130 OR $25 AND TWO SMART PLUGS
OhmConnect is a free service that helps to prevent blackouts by coordinating saving energy in hundreds of thousands of homes one or two hours a week when there’s extreme demand on the grid. A smart device is not required to participate with OhmConnect but pays added dividends if you use one, for example, to turn off your refrigerator for short periods. You get paid directly for the energy you save at these critical times.
If you use this link to sign up 350 Humboldt will get $50 as a signer’s bonus: https://ohm.co/dwchandl So contribute by avoiding the use of dirty “peaker” gas power and by getting a bonus for 350 Humboldt.

POSTCARD WRITING TO VOTERS ORGANIZED BY HUMBOLDT ACTIVIST FREDERICA AALTA
Here is Frederica describes what they are doing:
I am administering a postcarding network in Humboldt County (presently over 300 writers) and we supply postcards and stamps to writers, which are available for cost at several convenient pickup locations. Have anyone interested in joining us contact me. We mostly postcard for ROV (Reclaim Our Vote), which is non-partisan, but have also postcarded for Activate America (which used to be called Flip the West), which is partisan.

VOTING – VOTE FORWARD
NEW campaign to get voters in Virginia to vote by mail this November. Format is letters – very similar to the Sierra Club voter registration campaign but more immediate.
VOTING – POSTCARDS TO SWING STATES
Please SIGN UP to write postcards to make sure Democrats come out and vote. We’ll send you the postcards, addresses and instructions for free. You provide $0.36 stamps and mail the cards. A number of campaigns are available on the website.
With the help of volunteers like you, we wrote 21 million postcards in 2020, and we saw incredible results! Voters who receive handwritten postcards are significantly more likely to vote. You can help us keep New Jersey and Virginia blue!

Rooftop solar and battery storage are important tools for achieving energy democracy, keeping local money in local hands, and reducing overall costs for ratepayers. Rather than discouraging solar development by gutting this important program, we should be providing financial support to make it broadly available to all Californians.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) just raised the alarm again, releasing its latest scientific report detailing the widespread and severe impacts of climate change. The report points to heatwaves, drought, wildfires, heavy downpours, coastal flooding, and supercharging tropical cyclones as some of the consequences of runaway carbon pollution. It warns that, even if we act now, more damaging impacts are already locked in.
Congress has a once-in-a-generation opportunity, right now, to pass a climate and infrastructure bill that could allow us to cut carbon pollution significantly in the coming years.
Tell your members of Congress the time to act is now!

in the U.S., oil companies are still devouring federal lands with drilling — at a higher rate than when Trump was president.
In his first year, Biden will have authorized more drilling permits on federal lands than Trump did in his first two years in office combined.2 These new permits, combined with new authorizations for Liquefied Natural Gas almost ensure that the United States will not meet the goals we set in the Paris agreement.3

We’re demanding that all financial institutions (like banks) end their support for fossil fuels before the start of COP26, and that financial regulators (like the Federal Reserve) put a definitive end to fossil fuel finance. Period.
In order to do that, we first need to gather hundreds of thousands of signatures and deliver them to key targets ahead of November. Will you help us reach our goal by signing our petition today to cut off all funding to fossil fuels?

The EPA is considering dramatically scaling back the chemical information that manufacturers must report to the agency. This would significantly reduce what we know about thousands of chemicals in use today, even though this information is crucial for EPA to do its job. The American people have a right to know about and be protected from harmful chemicals in our homes, schools, and workplaces.

- Call your lawmakers in their district offices while they’re home for August recess, reminding them that you’re counting on them to pass strong budget reconciliation legislation that will tackle the climate crisis, accelerate our transition to a 100% clean energy future, ensure safe drinking water, and more. It only takes a minute, and there are two ways to call:
- Text CLIMATE to 21333 and you’ll get an instant call connecting you to your senator’s district office. If you’re feeling tongue-tied, the call recording has simple instructions on what to say. It’s important that lawmakers get calls at home just as often as they do in D.C.!
- Or, use this link to get your lawmakers’ contact information and a sample script.
- Sign our petition to Congress: If you’ve already called your lawmakers, sign our petition urging Congress to support bold climate action.
