follow the Sustainability Policy adopted on august 17, 2017

Hinckley Lake Improvements

The Cleveland Metroparks has been diligently working on many projects improving the waterways that flow into Hinckley Lake in preparation for rebuilding the dam and spillway and dredging portions of the lake. The tree canopy over the waterways is being renew to help cool the waters entering the lake. Streambeds, banks and floodplains are being restored to better control and reduce the silt and sediment entering the lake. 350 Hinckley performs monthly water-quality monitoring of a number of these streams including the East Branch of the Rocky River.

Further work will included lowering the water level in preparation for work on updating the Hinckley Dam and restoring sections of the shoreline. Portions of the reservoir will be dredged to restore the lake for recreation.

Hinckley Dam and Spillway Rebuild

The Metroparks is in the active planning stages of raising the Hinckley Lake earthen dam embankment and renovating the Hinckley Lake Spillway to be re-certified by ODNR to withstand a Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) as a result of a Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP) event.

Low Head Dam and Swimming Area Rebuild

The low head dam that impounds the water for the swimming area will be replaced. The shoreline of the swim area and beach will be restored.

350 Hinckley encourages the Metroparks to focus on their Sustainability Policy and perform the work as sustainable as possible, respect our township roads, and not disrupt the flow of water below the dam to the East Branch of the Rocky River.
