The thing to remember, as you watch the Copenhagen proceedings, is that we don’t just need a deal. We need a deal that’s actually good enough to make a difference to the climate, to take us back to 350. Tonight an important voice joined in reminding us not to get distracted by the spin. Here’s what Al Gore told the Times of London:

"Even a final treaty will have to set the stage for other tougher reductions at a later date,” he said. “We have already overshot the safe levels of CO2 in the atmosphere.”

"He insisted that the present goal set for Copenhagen of stabilizing world emissions of carbon dioxide at or below 450 parts per million…was insufficient and a safer target would be 350 parts per million."

Gore went on to say that we are "gambling with our future" by accepting lesser targets. He’s behaving like a real leader–he’s telling the truth. Let’s make sure our heads of government hear his words, in hopes they’ll be real leaders too.
