10/10/10 was just over two weeks ago, and the photos and stories are still coming in! The following guest blog was just sent to me from Howie Waldman, the Green Dean of Fieldston High School in the Bronx (a borough in New York City) and Jen Scarlott, a parent of one of the school's many student participants on 10/10/10:

It’s been a busy season at Fieldston High School in the Bronx, but energetic students, faculty and administrators plan to keep their sleeves rolled up long after 10/10/10.

On September 23, Fieldston sophomore Julia Worcester organized a school-wide assembly to drive home the link between the catastrophic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and its devastating effects on wildlife and ecosystems, and the invisible spill of CO2 into the atmosphere that is driving global warming. Julia addressed more than 600 fellow students before introducing Sally Newman from Stop Oil! NYC and Canem Ozyildirim from Greenpeace USA, who gave rousing presentations about the vast climate movement being spearheaded by 350.org across the globe.

On 10/10/10, Fieldston GOT TO WORK! Enthusiastic busloads of students from Fieldston High, Riverdale Country, and Discovery High, all in the Bronx, traveled to a large community garden at St. Christopher’s School in nearby White Plains, NY. By the end of the day, the students had learned about bed-building, composting, and fall prep, and harvested bushels of eggplants, sweet peppers, tomatillos, kale and collards for delivery to schools and soup kitchens throughout the Bronx. The connection between local food and global climate was on everyone’s minds. Goal: 350! Means: People Powered Movement!
