CARI Local Teams

Climate Action Rhode Island’s Local Teams bring together people who live in the same part of the state to take climate action in their own communities. Whether you’re new to advocacy or have been involved for years, Local Teams are a great way to meet like-minded people and make an impact close to home.

CARI has five Local Teams that together cover all of Rhode Island (see the map below). Each team supports CARI’s statewide campaigns while also working on issues that matter locally. Activities might include meeting with elected officials, supporting CARI’s endorsed climate champions during elections, attending public hearings, organizing educational events, writing letters to the editor, tabling at community events, or simply gathering for a coffee, hike, or happy hour to build community.

Our team boundaries are meant to make organizing easier—not to limit participation. If another Local Team is a better fit because of where you work, spend your time, or feel more connected, you’re always welcome to join that team instead.

How It Works

Local Teams meet regularly both in person and virtually. Each team has its own leadership, priorities, and activities based on the interests of its members, while also supporting CARI’s broader campaigns and strategic priorities.

That means every team looks a little different. During election years, Local Teams may focus on supporting CARI’s endorsed candidates through canvassing, events, and volunteer outreach. At other times, they may organize around local climate issues, respond to town or city initiatives, or bring emerging issues to CARI for additional support and coordination.

When you sign up, you’ll be connected with the Local Team that best fits your area and invited to upcoming meetings, events, and volunteer opportunities.
