Endorsing committee: CARI Politics Team – Newport region
Climate Action Rhode Island (350.org/ri) is pleased to again endorse our friend and climate champion Rep. Terri Cortvriend for re-election as District 72 State House Representative, representing Middletown and Portsmouth, RI.
Terri has been a tireless advocate for a wide array of environmental legislation including: pushing for a global warming solutions act, improving the Resilient Rhody Act, limiting plastic pollution, controlling PFAS in our foods, addressing excessive solid waste disposal through composting, protecting public shoreline access, increasing Coastal Resources Management Council jurisdiction, ensuring solar energy projects do not harm green fields, and promoting climate literacy in K-12 education. She supports the federal Green New Deal and has met often with the Green New Deal Research Council to study how a Green New Deal would work in Rhode Island. Terri is also a founding member of the Aquidneck Island Climate Caucus, which brings together experts and local community members to discuss issues such as sea level rise and carbon reduction, and potential state actions.
Terri was rated by RI Rank as Best RI House Representative for community outreach because of her excellent efforts, including regular constituent newsletters and almost 30 “Talks with Terri” events. At these Talks, she brings together constituents, community leaders, and elected officials to discuss and learn about important issues, including those relating to climate change and environmental hazards, as well as how to promote better health, safety and resiliency. She has also sponsored innovative community education events, such as the screening and post-viewing discussion of Dark Waters, a documentary about PFAS contamination.
We know Terri Cortvriend will continue to be a strong advocate for important environmental legislation and urge all Middletown and Portsmouth residents in Dist. 72 to cast a vote for Terri Cortvriend.
