CARI endorses Representative Jack Lyle (Independent), the incumbent representative in RI House District 46. Seeking his second term to represent his Lincoln and Pawtucket district, he faces a Democratic and a Republican challenger in the November general election. Representative Lyle entered office with a career background as an educator, attorney, and former three-term State Senator. As a sitting member on the House Committee on the Environment and Natural Resources, Representative Lyle has co-sponsored a plastic bag ban and advocated for a bottle deposit bill. He has pledged to support climate crisis legislation including Act on Climate 2020 and the Transportation Climate Initiative, as well supporting bans on building new fossil fuel infrastructure. Connecting the climate crisis to the unique economic needs of Rhode Islanders, he articulates dual goals of reducing Rhode Island’s fossil fuel use and promoting a clean energy industry in our state. Finally, we welcome Rep. Lyle’s commitment to meet regularly with Climate Action RI members and other environmental advocates.
