About Climate Action Rhode Island:

Climate Action Rhode Island (CARI) is a grassroots organization committed to fighting climate change through education, advocacy, and direct action. As an affiliate of 350.org, we work at the local and state level to advance policies and initiatives that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote renewable energy, and build climate resilience. We are a volunteer-driven organization that collaborates with a broad coalition of environmental, social justice, and community groups.

Position overview

We seek a passionate and organized Development and Digital Communications Associate to support our fundraising and communication efforts. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a strong interest in climate action, nonprofit fundraising, digital communications, and community engagement. This part-time role will focus on expanding our donor base, maintaining relationships with current donors, enhancing our digital presence, and supporting our volunteer community. This is a flexible position targeting around 20 hours a week. Some weeks may include more and less work and we can work with your schedule.

Key responsibilities

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with existing donors through regular communication, including thank you notes, updates on CARI’s work, and invitations to events.
  • Assist in identifying and researching potential new donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
  • Assist in planning and executing fundraising campaigns, including annual appeals, online giving days, and special events.
  • Manage donor databases, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to identify and apply for relevant grants.

Digital communications

  • Develop and execute digital communication strategies to engage supporters and the broader community through social media, email newsletters, and the CARI website.
  • Manage CARI’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), including creating and posting content, responding to inquiries, and monitoring engagement.
  • Draft and send email newsletters and other communications to supporters, ensuring consistent and compelling messaging.
  • Update and maintain the content on CARI’s website to reflect ongoing campaigns, events, and organizational news.

Volunteer engagement

  • Cultivate and engage CARI’s volunteer community by coordinating volunteer activities, events, and meetings.
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of new volunteers, ensuring they are integrated into the organization’s activities and campaigns.
  • Communicate regularly with volunteers to keep them informed and motivated, and to recognize their contributions.
  • Collaborate with volunteer leaders to develop training materials and resources that empower volunteers to take on leadership roles within the organization.

Event support

  • Support the planning and execution of fundraising and community events, including online events, community gatherings, and donor appreciation events.
  • Coordinate logistics, manage RSVPs, and assist with event promotion.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in fundraising, development, or a related field.

Skills:

  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for different audiences.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.

Education:
