Hiring: Part-time Development Manager & Grant Writer

Can you help us to build the fundraising infrastructure that will support CARI EF’s continued growth and long-term sustainability? This flexible, largely remote position is well-suited to a self-directed, strategic thinker who enjoys building systems, cultivating relationships, and turning opportunities into lasting support.
Working closely with the Executive Director, Assistant Director, and Board of Directors, this role will lead our grant writing efforts, strengthen donor stewardship, improve fundraising systems and materials, and help create a comprehensive fundraising strategy.

About Us

Climate Action Rhode Island Education Fund (CARI EF) is a statewide 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Together with our 501(c)(4) sister organization, Climate Action Rhode Island (CARI), we work to accelerate Rhode Island’s transition to clean energy. Through grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and community education, we engage residents across the state to build political will and advance practical, equitable climate solutions.

 

About the role:
∼15 hours/week · $30 – $35/hour (depending on experience) · Largely Remote

FUNDRAISING & DEVELOPMENT
• Support development and implementation of CARI EF’s multi-year fundraising strategy.
• Research, write, and submit grant proposals and reports.
• Build and maintain a grant tracking system.
• Identify new foundation, corporate, and government funding opportunities.
• Strengthen relationships with grant officers and institutional funders.
• Revise fundraising materials, including our donation webpage and case for support.
• Develop strategies to grow monthly sustaining donors and membership model.

DONOR ENGAGEMENT & BOARD SUPPORT
• Develop donor cultivation and stewardship systems.
• Maintain donor records and segmented donor lists.
• Coordinate donor communications.
• Work with board members to strengthen their fundraising engagement.
• Help plan and support fundraising events.
• Track fundraising progress and recommend improvements to maximize long-term sustainability.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Demonstrated commitment to climate action, clean energy, and environmental justice.
• Experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, development, or related work.
• Strong writing and editing skills.
• Self-driven, with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Skilled relationship-builder with strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Familiarity with donor databases, CRM systems, or fundraising platforms preferred.
• Proficiency in Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.).
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff, volunteers, and board members.
• Availability for occasional evenings and weekends for fundraising events across RI.

 

 

This is a largely remote position with flexible hours and occasional in-person meetings and events throughout Rhode Island. Candidates must provide their own computer and phone and have reliable statewide transportation. This position is funded through an initial grant period, with the goal of becoming a permanent position as fundraising capacity grows.
