Hiring: Part-time Volunteer Organizer

Do you love turning grassroots energy into meaningful action? We’re looking for a self-directed, relationship-oriented professional for a flexible, largely remote paid position in a growing non-profit. The ideal candidate brings experience in volunteer or community organizing, understands what it takes to move people from interest to involvement, and is excited to build durable tools & systems that help volunteers plug in, take action, and stay engaged over time.

About Us

Climate Action Rhode Island (CARI) is a statewide 501(c)(4) nonprofit. Together with our 501(c)(3) sister organization, Climate Action Rhode Island Education Fund (CARI EF), we work to accelerate Rhode Island’s transition to clean energy. Through grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and community education, we engage residents across the state to build political will and advance practical, equitable climate solutions.

 

About the role:
∼20 hours/week · $25/hour · Largely Remote

VOLUNTEER ORGANIZING & ENGAGEMENT
• Design and lead onboarding process for new volunteers.
• Maintain records of volunteer interests, skills, and availability.
• Collaborate with staff and leadership team to match volunteers to actions, events, testimony, and leadership opportunities.
• Support campaign teams and leadership team as needed as it relates to volunteers.

RECRUITMENT & EVENT SUPPORT
• Represent CARI at community events and outreach opportunities.
• Coordinate volunteers for tabling and events.
• Identify & see through new opportunities to build presence and engage new audiences.
• Support in-person activities with logistics and materials preparation.
• Support relevant external communications (email, social media, WhatsApp, website, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS
• Demonstrated commitment to climate action, clean energy, and environmental justice.
• 1+ years of experience in a nonprofit environment.
• 1+ years of experience in volunteer, team, or community group management / leadership.
• Strong communication skills — mostly email, some public speaking and writing.
• Familiarity with WordPress preferred.
• Skilled in relationship-building: energetic, positive, team-oriented attitude.
• Familiarity with Action Network or similar organizing platforms (or willingness to learn).
• Proficiency in Google Workspace (gmail, google docs, sheets, drive, etc)
• Availability for occasional evenings and weekends, and able to reply to emails during the day.
• Organized with ability to self manage multiple projects, schedules, and communication streams.

 

This is a largely remote position with occasional in-person events statewide, so Rhode Island based preferred. Flexible hours (not a set 9-5 but there is an expectation for timely email responses and attendance in meetings and events, especially around key moments).
Candidates must provide their own computer and phone and have reliable RI statewide travel capability. Position is guaranteed through 2026, and potential for extension dependent on funding.
