December 5, PowerUp NC Statewide Call: Threats of Transco SSEP

We’ll discuss community concerns and dangers of Transco’s proposed SSEP methane gas pipeline, and what communities can do to stop the project from ever being built. Southeast Supply Enhancement Project is the largest, high-pressure East Coast methane gas pipeline proposed in a decade, and impacts 5 states, VA, NC, SC, GA and AL. This webinar will examine the environmental impacts and policy implications of data center growth, the consequences for residents of Northern Virginia and nearby states, and law, policy, and research needs to manage and direct sustainable growth. Federal regulators at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) are reviewing Transco’s documents. But they’re currently only conducting an “environmental assessment.” We are demanding FERC conduct a FULL “environmental impact statement.” This statement must include the option of not expanding this pipeline. Demand a robust federal review of the Southeast Supply Enhancement Project! Say NO before December 3 to the Transco Pipeline Expansion and tell the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to complete a full environmental impact statement here.
The EPA is delaying funds to Climate Justice Alliance (CJA) for community grants under the Inflation Reduction Act. CJA is asking for support to get EPA to release the funding.
Email EPA Administrator Regan and tell him the climate funds must be released now. Remind him that his legacy should be one of standing with environmental justice communities, not one of cowering to right wing pressure here.   Then email Democratic Senate Majority Leader Schumer and ask him to contact Regan to release the funds now here.
