Howdy!

A quick update with a change of date since the Friday morning email, plus, another event this week!
Originally scheduled on May 12th, we learned Friday night the public hearing was changed unexpectedly three days before the hearing was to take place to June 3rd because of “significant security concerns.” Right now it’s looking like we will have most of the same speakers and performers.
June 3, Drag Down Our Electric Bills
5:30 pm, Rally and Drag Show
7 pm, Public hearing on Duke’s request to raise electric bills
Durham County Courthouse, 501 S. Dillard St. Durham
Join us for the last rate hike hearing! North Carolinians are having to choose between paying the light bill and paying for food, medicine, or rent! One reason your bills are so high?: NC electric bills are subsidizing power for big tech companies’ data centers.
What makes it even worse: Our money, water, and land are being consumed for for AI tools we don’t use, but are used for:
Surveillance
Wars
Deporting our neighbors
What’s really going on? They are worried about too much public participation! DO NOT LET THEM SQUASH YOUR VOICE. HOPE TO SEE YOU JUNE 3RD! Register here.
Duke Energy has too much power in NC!!

May 13, Why Do We Need International Solidarity for Climate Justice
6:30 – 8 pm, online
Are you wondering why international solidarity and action is necessary for climate justice? Do you want to know how you can get involved? Join us for a conversation between Helena Mullenbach, climate justice activist and the Regional Organiser for Latin America for 350.org, and leaders of the International Solidarity Working Group.
This event is co-sponsored by the 350 Wisconsin Climate Justice Team and the International Solidarity Working Group (that I am a member of), which works to bring an internationalist and intersectional perspective to climate organizing in the US. Join us here.
