December 7,  How to be a Citizen Intervenor Part 1

December 7, Stop Dakota Access Pipeline Comment Party

Join this important Public Comment Writing Party. The Standing Rock Sioux, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, and grassroots water protectors have led the resistance against the dirty Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) since the beginning. We will hear from frontline leaders about the status of the fight, learn more about how to submit a public comment, and then have time to write and submit our own. The Biden administration must side with the people, not fossil fuel companies, and shut down DAPL and fossil fuel infrastructure once and for all. Register here. The Mountain Valley Pipeline is not only destroying our mountains, they’re hitting pipeline fighters with SLAPP suits. The trend of the fossil fuel industry using the legal system to target activists is growing both nationally and globally. Protect the Protest supports activists threatened by SLAPP suits and reduces the threat these suits pose. Lauren Regan, Director & Attorney with the Civil Liberties Defense Center and Protect the Protest will host a virtual training about the history of major SLAPP suits and how activists can respond to them. The UN climate negotiations COP28 conference is taking place now in Dubai from November 30 – December 12. Several people from NC are attending that I know. You can watch some of the events online. I’ve included links to a few recordings from the first few days. Raleigh is 9 hours behind Dubai time. While there are a record number of fossil fuel lobbyists attending, the awesome people power of civil society is there in force.

Update on Mariah Energy Center (MEC) LNG.
 
On Monday night at the Person County Board of Commissioners meeting they voted to approve the rezoning for the proposed MEC LNG project. Before the vote, 30+ spoke powerfully and passionately against the toxic LNG coming to their community. Around 350 people were in attendance. A petition with over 1,000 people against and 15 orgs against was shared. I was watching online (with up to 95 others). Stop CP2 and Liquified Natural Gas Exports! Tell President Biden and the Department of Energy to STOP the biggest build out of fossil fuels in US history: the construction of over 20 new LNG export facilities that could add the equivalent emissions of 675 coal-fired power plants here.
