As many as 75,000 climate activists gathered in New York City on September 17 to demand that Biden declare a national climate emergency to end fossil fuel extraction. Among them were 52 activists from RI! The group was energized to call for action alongside so many dedicated climate warriors and they are excited to carry that energy back to efforts to fight for climate justice in our ocean state.

Two CARI activists at the March to End Fossil Fuels.

We were lucky to have two great environmental journalists join the march. Steve Ahlquist, independent reporter, whose work covering progressive issues can be found on Substack. Read his piece about the event and subscribe!

Colleen Cronin, a reporter for ecoRI, wrote this great account of the day. Consider subscribing and donating to ecoRI as well.

National and international news outlets covered the historic march as well:

Thanks to Sunrise Brown/RISD, the Sisters of Mercy Social Justice Team, the George Wiley Center, the Hearts of Social Justice RI, and all the activists who joined CARI in traveling to NYC to call for the end of fossil fuels!
