CARI is pleased to endorse the Woonsocket Democrats – a slate of candidates running on a common campaign platform seeking four of the seven seats on the Woonsocket City Council. Although you may vote for up to seven candidates, CARI recommends voting for these four only, to maximize their chances of victory.

Each of the candidates comes from different backgrounds and from different Woonsocket neighborhoods to unite with a shared message to uplift working people and create a thriving economy in their city.

  • Alex Kithes, who is running to be re-elected to a seat on the Council, is a champion of public school funding. He is an active member of CARI and Sunrise.
  • Charmaine Webster, a mother and a leader in a community action group that works to provide a safe environment for kids and stop racism, wants to work for fundamental change especially for struggling families in Woonsocket.
  • Marlene Guay (pronounced “Guy”), with a background in education, management and advocacy, wants to use her skills to bring equity to and be a voice for Woonsocket residents.
  • Vaughan Miller, a Navy veteran having served overseas, came to Woonsocket where he felt the call to continue his service to others by running for city council.

Part of their plan to better serve the underserved includes boosting their economy by championing a municipal Green New Deal, a set of policies that will protect the local environment, move toward renewable energy, and create good-paying jobs.
