Update on SB 261, now SB 266!<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
In the April newsletter I mentioned w<\/span>e\u2019ll be keeping our eye on SB 261 that passed quickly in the NC Senate. It then sat in the House rules committee, and was added to the Senate budget bill last month. The bill would remove the 2030 carbon reduction goals that Duke Energy is required to meet by law and it would l<\/span>et Duke Energy charge customers for new projects while they are under construction (CWIP). Last Thursday we learned SB 266 was gutted and language from SB 261 was added. UGH! It passed the House committee quickly and looks like they will be voting on this bill TOMORROW. \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

Contact your NC Representatives and ask them to vote NO on SB 266!<\/strong> Find your NC legislators here<\/a>. If it passes in the House and Senate, contact Gov. Stein and ask him to veto here<\/a> or call him at 919-814-2000.<\/div>\n

Last week the State House passed SB 153, a bill that would require state law enforcement officers like State Troopers and the State Bureau of Investigation to gain the powers of immigration agents through ICE\u2019s 287(g) program. This would deputize officers to have the same powers of ICE agents. Support our immigrant neighbors and register <\/span>here<\/a>.<\/span> You can also <\/span>call your NC Senator<\/a> and urge them to vote no. <\/span><\/div>\n

Update on SSEP <\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n

Last week we had good news from the people power working on a resolution in Greensboro! Guilford County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution on SSEP stating that they have safety concerns over SSEP. They will submit the resolution to FERC and the NC General Assembly. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has opened an official public scoping comment period for the Mountain Valley Pipeline Southgate Project amendment request. Join a team to learn how to navigate FERC processes, draft, and submit a comment! Register here<\/a>.<\/div>\n
