The busy spring season is beginning to slow down. First, some updates on the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP).<\/p>\n

On April 22 (Earth Day!!!) MVP asked for \u201cin-service\u201d permission from the Federal Energy Regulatory Agency by May 23 \u2013 before they\u2019ve completed their safety consent agreement. NOOOOO!!! Help us tell FERC to deny MVP’s request! <\/strong>Toolkit with actions to take <\/span>here<\/a>. \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

Then on May 1, the MVP pipeline ruptured as MVP used pressurized water to test the pipes!<\/div>\n

It was SO great to be in community with people from WV, VA and NC demanding accountability from banks in Charlotte on May 8th for The People vs Bank of America action. There were about 100 of us walking on the sidewalks in Uptown Charlotte. A landowner received a letter from MVP on May 6 that MVP Southgate is again surveying. UGH! At this time, there are no recent developments regarding state level permits on the project. 350 US is hosting an excellent Utilities Public Education Series<\/strong> on Tuesday nights at 7 pm. Each session features different guest speakers who will share their expertise and then lead attendees in interactive breakout sessions. Check out the schedule and RSVP her<\/a>e. Join Appalachian Voices and other coalition partners to learn more about the Southeast Supply Enhancement Project – a 54-mile methane pipeline proposed to run through VA and NC. Now through June 6, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is accepting “scoping” comments on the project to help FERC know what should be included in their environmental assessment of the pipeline. Roxboro Steam Station<\/strong><\/div>\n
Duke Energy has proposed to build new methane gas power plants at the site of the Roxboro Steam Station in northern Person County. In mid-June, the North Carolina Utilities Commission will hold public hearings to hear feedback on Duke\u2019s plans for these plants. \u00a0<\/span>Join others to go door-to-door in northern Person County to talk to community members about Duke\u2019s plans and hear their thoughts on the proposed methane gas plants.<\/div>\n
