Howdy!<\/p>\n

We are in a CLIMATE EMERGENCY! Thankfully momentum is growing in the past couple weeks with a huge push urging Biden to declare a climate emergency. Just this morning 165 staffers at federal health and environmental agencies and at more than 80 congressional offices released an open letter<\/a> calling on President Biden to declare a Climate Emergency. Details here<\/a>. Later this morning 17 Congressional staffers staged a sit-in at Sen. Schumer\u2019s office. Story here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Three actions you take this week!<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n

1. Tell Biden: Choose People over Fossil Fuels and Declare a Climate Emergency<\/strong> here<\/a>! <\/span><\/div>\n

2. Call the White House<\/strong> and urge President Biden to declare a #ClimateEmergency, stop fossil fuel leasing, export, and project approvals, and speed a just, renewable energy transition. The White House Comment Line (888-431-7599) is open Tues-Thurs 11 am – 3 pm<\/strong>. Please call during these hours and leave a message using the sample script below:<\/p>\n

3. Join the People vs Fossil Fuels coalition for a MASS MOVEMENT call<\/a> Tuesday, July 26th at 8 pm<\/strong> to outline the scope of powers Biden has to stop the climate crisis without Congress \u2013 and mobilize our movement to increase pressure on him to use them!<\/div>\n

Last week, Biden again pledged to take a series of executive actions to tackle the climate crisis after climate negotiations in Congress were killed once again by Sen. Manchin. But after reportedly considering declaring a climate emergency, he has yet to follow through.<\/p>\n

With this latest and likely final Congressional setback, NOW IS THE MOMENT to push hard for Biden to use his full executive authority to take on the climate crisis.

Carbon Plan<\/strong> Public Hearings<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n

After the Durham and Wilmington hearings, there are still two more in person Carbon Plan public hearings in Asheville and Charlotte this week, plus, a virtual hearing next month! As a reminder, at the end of May, Duke Energy released its draft carbon plan. Duke still wants to rely on polluting fossil fuels like fracked gas, which is unacceptable! The NCUC will be the one who will craft the final carbon plan, so we need to let them know what WE want that plan to look like! <\/span><\/div>\n
