Howdy!

Hope you had a little time to rest and take a break for yourself as we get ready for another year of actions. One action and event is tonight in Mebane! With the climate crisis were already in, do we need a HUGE gas station with 120 gas pumps in Mebane, NC off I-40? NO!!!
STOP Buc-ee’s!

The city’s planning board voted 6-3 to recommend that the City Council deny the project. TONIGHT the Mebane City Council has the final say and will vote on the project:

January 10, Divest from Militarism, Invest in Life! A conversation about war and climate change

12 pm, online
Militarism is deeply intertwined with the climate crisis. From the direct emissions of sprawling militaries like the US’s massive network of bases, to the detrimental impacts war has on international cooperation and the resources it takes away from climate finance, militarism is antithetical to building a just and collective transition away from fossil fuels. Join 350.org for a critical conversation moderated by climate journalist Dharna Noor featuring Dr. Neta Crawford (Costs of War Project), Ramón Mejia (About Face & Grassroots Global Justice Alliance), Ashley LaMont (Honor the Earth), and Zaki Mamdoo (350.org). Call on Biden and Congress to Support a Ceasefire!
From 350.org — As a climate movement, we have a responsibility to stand up to help end cycles of violence wherever we see them. Colonization is inherently violent, and it’s one of the same systemic forces that has contributed to the climate injustices facing our world. Climate justice can only be achieved if all people’s human rights are upheld. Call on President Biden to demand a ceasefire here.

Tell Congress: No more weapons for Israel, Ceasefire Now here.
Call or email the White House here.
To learn more about the connections between the climate crisis and militarism, join 350.org and Stop the Money Pipeline’s webinars on January 10 and 23 listed above.

Under President Biden’s watch, the U.S. has become the biggest exporter of fracked gas in the world. The Biden administration is currently considering approving 20+ new oil and gas export projects – the pollution equivalent of 675 new coal plants. Tell President Biden this build-out of oil and gas export projects is UNACCEPTABLE! Sign here.
