McKibben, co-founder of 350.org and a leading environmental author, has been instrumental in bringing global attention to climate change and the potential of renewable energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of this national movement, Sun Day Rhode Island transformed The Steel Yard in Providence into a family-friendly clean energy festival. Our event demonstrated that clean energy isn\u2019t a faroff dream, but is instead an immediate, practical solution to our current energy challenges that will bring down costs and improve reliability.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Key highlights of Sun Day Rhode Island included:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A clean energy showcase with electric vehicles, solar panels, and electric lawn equipment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kid Wind interactive turbine activities\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Art activities including a community clean energy future mural<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Opportunities to talk with heat pump and solar experts, clean energy advocates, and state clean energy incentive program administrators.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A short speaking program at 2 p.m. featuring climate advocates and Rhode Island legislators.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brief welcoming remarks from the host organizations<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Howie Sneider, Executive Director, The Steel Yard<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brett P. By celebrating successes and possibilities together, and providing opportunities for learning and collaborating, we can build the resilient communities this moment calls for.\u201d says Jeff Migneault, Executive Director of Climate Action Rhode Island<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event is part of a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/news\/annals-of-a-warming-planet\/46-billion-years-on-the-sun-is-having-a-moment\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">larger national movement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> demonstrating that clean energy technologies are affordable, reliable, and ready to deploy at scale. According to Sun Day organizers, the United States added <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2025\/03\/10\/solar-new-capacity-us-grid-2024\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">50 gigawatts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of solar power to the grid in 2024 \u2013 the most any energy source has added in two decades \u2013 enough to power 8.5 million
