The activist group Climate Action Rhode Island\u00a0 and many local citizens demonstrated in Barrington, Rhode Island, in front of Chase Bank on County Road from 11-1 pm Saturday, December 2. On November 15, the group had presented an informational program on climate change it the Barrington Public Library. Attendees were invited to participate in the demonstration.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0 demonstration’s purpose was to alert Chase Bank’s customers and Barrington residents of the seriousness of the situation with climate change, and that Chase Bank continues to finance fossil fuel corporations. Chase Bank is the world’s largest financier of fossil fuels, and makes billions of dollars from its investments.<\/p>\n

“We hope to encourage Chase customers to move their money to a climate conscious, “green” bank, ” explained one of the groups members, Elizabeth O’Connell. “Our children’s very future depends upon our actions now. With world leaders meeting at COP28 to discuss solutions to climate change this week, we hope to raise local citizens’ consciousness of what each of us can do to affect change, and to send a message to Chase Bank to divest from fossil fuel investments”<\/p>\n
