Greenhouse gas emissions are already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-03-02\/after-historic-fall-carbon-emissions-are-now-coming-back-fast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">creeping higher<\/a> than before the pandemic as economies come back to life.<\/p>\n<p>That shouldn\u2019t be a total surprise. Even as governments around the world have spent trillions of dollars\u00a0to aid their nation\u2019s recoveries, only a tiny fraction has gone toward initiatives that would also cut pollution.<\/p>\n<p>Many politicians, including U.S. president Joe Biden, have adopted the phrase \u201cbuild back better.\u201d But they have yet to deliver on the promise. That\u2019s the conclusion of a new report from the University of Oxford and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Researchers found that, out of the $14.6 trillion in spending announced by the 50 largest economies in 2020, only 2.5% has been for green activities.<\/p>\n<p>And that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/features\/2020-green-stimulus-clean-energy-future\/?sref=jjXJRDFv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">limited stimulus<\/a>\u00a0isn\u2019t evenly spread across the globe. \u201cThe vast majority of the green spending has been driven by only five countries,\u201d said Brian O\u2019Callaghan, project manager of the economic recovery project at the University of Oxford and a lead author of the report.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-03-10\/global-stimulus-spending-is-not-green-enough-yet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FULL ARTICLE HERE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With only 2.5% of government spending going to green activities, we\u2019re squandering a chance to create jobs and cut emissions.
