{"id":795,"date":"2017-06-16T07:21:26","date_gmt":"2017-06-16T07:21:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/world.350.org\/philippines\/?p=795"},"modified":"2017-06-19T08:40:02","modified_gmt":"2017-06-19T08:40:02","slug":"climate-change-knows-no-borders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/world.350.org\/philippines\/climate-change-knows-no-borders\/","title":{"rendered":"Climate change knows no borders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Chuck Baclagon<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This morning picketed the Vietnamese Embassy in Manila, to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">urge the their government\u00a0to cancel the plan to put up the 2,800-megawatt Long An power station in Long An province, Vietnam to protect their\u00a0people, their\u00a0environment, and the climate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Climate change knows no borders\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oOac3PfQHUc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both Vietnam and the Philippines rank among the most vulnerable countries worldwide to the impacts of climate change. Science demands the world to keep global warming well below 2 degrees Celsius, if not within the aspirational target of 1.5 degrees Celsius, to avoid climate catastrophe. Vietnam\u00a0has also pledged to do its fair share of climate action by ratifying the Paris Agreement. Mining and burning coal release harmful pollutants into the air including: mercury, particulate matter, chemicals that form smog. The pollution also kills fish and plants, damages the soil, and contaminates the groundwater and waterways.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A healthy, prosperous and sustainable world is possible if all countries transition to clean energy as it offers a safe, vast and inexhaustible supply of power.
