It\u2019s not everyday that we see a vibrant scene outside the Japanese Embassy: climate activists, prepped with a powerful message and inflatable giant Doraemon mascots, have taken to the streets. Their mission?<\/strong> To challenge Japan to end its financial support for fossil fuels in anticipation of hosting the prestigious Group of 7 (G7) leaders’ summit.<\/p>\n

For those unfamiliar, Doraemon<\/a> \u2013 a cute blue robot cat \u2013 is a beloved manga and anim\u00e9 character that first emerged in Japan during the late 1960s. The activists cleverly draw parallels between the story of Doraemon and their cause: Just as Nobita Nobi\u2019s grandson sends a robot from the future<\/a> to guide and improve Nobita\u2019s younger self’s life, Japan must be reminded of its commitment to real climate action<\/a> to secure a sustainable and peaceful future for all, including future generations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Growing up, I\u2019ve always been fascinated by this animated series, particularly Doraemon as a character. Witnessing today\u2019s creative action in the Philippines drew me more insights into Japan and its popular character Doraemon.<\/p>\n

Doraemon perfectly suits this creative action. In a world where technology plays an increasingly significant role, finding a symbol that embodies its potential for peace, creativity, and innovation may seem like a daunting task. Yet, nestled in the heart of Japanese popular culture, there exists a beloved character whose charm and adventures have made him a perfect ambassador for these values.<\/p>\n
