The board of the GCF, which is mandated by the UN climate convention to support developing countries in addressing climate change impacts, will reconvene in Songdo, Korea starting tomorrow to consider applications such as KEXIM&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1057\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1057\" class=\"wp-image-1057\" src=\"http:\/\/world.350.org\/east-asia\/files\/2016\/10\/Kexim-Protest_Reclaim-Power_ACDimatatac-29.jpg\" alt=\"Filipino climate justice activists protested today, October 11, 2016, in front of the local headquarters of the Export\u00adImport Bank of Korea (KEXIM), in Makati City, demanding that it stop funding fossil fuel projects worldwide and be banned from receiving climate funding. The demonstration was also part of Reclaim Power, a global month of action aimed at institutions funding dirty energy projects that fuel climate change.\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1057\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: AC Dimatatac<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.caneurope.org\/publications\/letters-to-policy-makers\/1237-letter-to-the-board-of-the-green-climate-fund-call-for-categorical-exclusion-of-export-credit-agencies-eca\">The activists are part of Philippine Movement for Climate Justice, 350.org East Asia, Freedom from Debt Coalition and Asian Peoples Movement on Debt and Development, a global climate movement which co-signed a civil society letter demanding that the GCF board exclude export credit agencies such as KEXIM from accreditation. <\/a>The demonstration was also part of Reclaim Power, a global month of action aimed at institutions funding dirty energy projects that fuel climate change.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adb.org\/sites\/default\/files\/project-document\/175016\/43906-014-xarr.pdf\">KEXIM&#8217;s dirty-energy record include financing coal projects like the 206-megawatt coal plant in Naga, Cebu which is also jointly operated by a subsidiary of the state-run Korea Electric Power Company (KEPCO), the world\u2019s top public electric utility.<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/d2ouvy59p0dg6k.cloudfront.net\/downloads\/wwf_nrdc_oci_under_the_rug_june15_2.pdf\">KEXIM also provided 3.8 billion USD for overseas coal-fired power plant projects in 2007-2014, which makes it is the world\u2019s 5th largest financial institution in public finance for coal <\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1058\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1058\" class=\"wp-image-1058\" src=\"http:\/\/world.350.org\/east-asia\/files\/2016\/10\/Kexim-Protest_Reclaim-Power_ACDimatatac-47.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: AC Dimatatac\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1058\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: AC Dimatatac<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe Export-Import Bank of Korea should drop its investments on dirty coal-fired power plants if it wants to be involved in the Green Climate Fund.
