{"id":436,"date":"2015-09-15T08:44:08","date_gmt":"2015-09-15T08:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/world.350.org\/philippines\/?p=436"},"modified":"2017-10-07T05:43:29","modified_gmt":"2017-10-07T05:43:29","slug":"quezon-rises-up-against-dirty-energy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/world.350.org\/philippines\/quezon-rises-up-against-dirty-energy\/","title":{"rendered":"Quezon rises up against dirty energy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Chuck Baclagon<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I was supposed to be on leave yesterday, and I have already imagined an uneventful day when I suddenly came across a short-noticed invitation to an anti-coal activity in Quezon, province which I was elated to join.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">It was totally unplanned and unexpected, after a hectic morning I suddenly found myself having lunch and listening to Fr. Raul Enriquez, of Pagbilao, Quezon, sharing the story of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hermano_Pule\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hermano Pule,<\/a> the great revolutionary hero of Quezon, who led a major revolt against Spanish rule of the Philippines based on a struggle for religious freedom and independence in 1841.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">After our meal we proceeded to join several hundred students from Sacred Heart College in Lucena, as they prepare to converge with delegations from other parts of the province. Photo: Fread De Mesa<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The day culminated with the a candle light vigil where the light of the candles glimmer to celebrate and to renew our commitments to the struggle \u2013to our dreams.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I&#8217;d like to believe that the flickering candles at dusk serve as beacons for an energy revolution in the way we use, produce and distribute energy. A revolution that lays down the foundation for a sustainable future not only for Quezon, but for the Philippines.
