Photo by: LJ Pasion<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">By Chuck Baclagon<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.earthhour.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Earth Hour<\/a> has become an expression of unanimity and solidarity for a more sustainable path to progress, with millions of people across the globe taking part in the initiative every year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As good as it is though, we must never forget that responding proportionately to the challenge posed by climate change it must not begin and end in an hour. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The 60-minute lights-off comes as a reminder that we should take it as a first step towards a long journey to a<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>near future, where Earth Hour would no longer be needed to remind us to take action and seize opportunities to turn the world upside-down by changing the way we live and for paving the way for systems that prioritizes sustainability and meaningful change for a world that badly needs climate action.<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 600px; height: 400px; text-align: center; margin: auto;\"><object width=\"600\" height=\"400\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"flashvars\" value=\"offsite=true&amp;lang=en-us&amp;page_show_url=%2Fphotos%2F350org%2Fsets%2F72157651548390486%2Fshow&amp;page_show_back_url=%2Fphotos%2F350org%2Fsets%2F72157651548390486%2F&amp;set_id=72157651548390486\" \/><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/apps\/slideshow\/show.swf?v=71649\" \/><embed width=\"600\" height=\"400\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/apps\/slideshow\/show.swf?v=71649\" flashvars=\"offsite=true&amp;lang=en-us&amp;page_show_url=%2Fphotos%2F350org%2Fsets%2F72157651548390486%2Fshow&amp;page_show_back_url=%2Fphotos%2F350org%2Fsets%2F72157651548390486%2F&amp;set_id=72157651548390486\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" \/><\/object><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The switch-off is a call for a sustained and conscious effort to become real agents of change in this struggle to switch on a fossil-free world by pursuing: energy efficiency, renewable energy, fossil-fuel divestment and climate justice as concrete steps that we can take for ushering in a sustainable and just future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Of course we cannot do this alone that&#8217;s why we are counting on you to stand with us. Together, let us move beyond the hour expressing our personal commitment to climate action.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Switching off is a good start.
