The program<\/b><\/p>\n

Over the past 4 years, the East Asia Climate Leadership Program, comprised of a webinar series and an offline 3-day camp, have engaged climate leaders in the region, serving as a platform to showcase stories and experiences on frontline heroes and community organizing. It has also become a tool to expand the capacity of youth activists on various topics surrounding climate change and climate justice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from expanding to include South Asia participants, this year we will also be focusing on building the capacity of junior campaigners on<\/span> Asia finance. <\/b>The camp will serve as an introduction to both private bank divestment and campus divestment, and will also serve as a platform for the participants to integrate both country-focused and region-wide strategies both from financer and recipient country perspectives into the 350 Asia Finance Strategy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ACLP FY19GOALS:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • Goal 1: Build and strengthen a network of junior organizers and campaigners in Asia, focused on knowledge-building and coordinating similar in-country actions to result in region-wide strategies (e.g. school strikes youth organizing, divestment campaigns drawing from financier vs. recipient perspectives, campus divestment, etcetera)<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Goal 2: Build capacity of local activists in finance issues, centering discussions on how finance from Japan, Korea and China are funding new fossil fuel projects in the VIP countries;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Participants profile<\/b><\/p>\n

    We are looking specifically for <\/span>junior campaigners<\/b> who have at least 6 months of organizing or campaigning experience on climate change or environmental issues. They must exhibit high potential\u00a0 and commitment to work on specific campaign ideas in these strands of work for at least 6 months after the camp, linking your group\u2019s goals to the 350 Asia Finance Campaign.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Requirements<\/b><\/p>\n

    The nominated participants must submit a one-pager proposal introducing themselves and their ideas for possible chapter or organizational activities in the next 6 months challenging fossil fuel finance in their country in relation to one of the following:<\/b><\/p>\n

    1. Storytelling, social media or digital activities\u3000<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Direct action or related activities to challenge new coal fired power plants\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Bank divestment, campus divestment or other institutional divestment campaigns<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      The nominated participants must also participate in the cap-off session on organizing for the September 20 global climate strikes with ideas on how to promote further finance and divestment campaign goals in their home countries during the mobilizations and follow-up activities.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
