Here is a guest post from our friends at the Young National Trades Union Congress and ECO Singapore. 7,000+ people running for 350 this Sunday!
Last year, Young NTUC’s Run 350 at Pulau Ubin was a great success with over 1000 participants who are mostly youths, running for an environmental cause. Proceeds from the run were channelled to Garden City's Fund's Plant-A-Tree Program and a total of 229 trees were planted at Pulau Ubin. Encouraged by the overwhelming support for the inaugural run, Run 350 is now back, better, larger and greener!
This year's Run 350 will be held at the Promontory@Marina Bay on 17th April and we are excited to share that we are expecting over 7,200 runners (thanks to NTUC Income, the presenter of Run 350). The run will be held around the scenic city area, with the race route passing by Singapore’s various iconic landmarks, such as the Singapore Flyer, the Esplanade and Marina Bay Sands.
Run 350 aims to raise the awareness of the environmental issues the world is facing today and why 350 ppm is the way to go, with part of the proceeds from the run going towards tree planting efforts through Plant-A-Tree Programme once again. Efforts were also made to reduce the footprint of the run wherever possible. For examples, the run’s collaterals were printed on FSC certified paper on a “need to” basis and the use of biodiesel was insisted to fuel the power generator powering the event as well.
Two coastal clean-up sessions were organised prior to the actual run itself, on the 26th February and 20th March, have attracted positive responses from the runners. The idea behind the clean-ups is to involve the runners and have them realise the impact that human actions have on the environment and also to build up the camaraderie in taking ownership of the environment we all share.
17th April will definitely be an eventful day. We are all hyped up for Run 350 and are counting down to this Sunday where thousands of people will run for 350!
