There's a growing movement afoot in Canada for a future beyond fossil fuels, and it was present in force both for Moving Planet last Saturday, as well as for a beautiful and powerful protest against the tar sands and Keystone XL pipeline in Ottawa this Monday.

Here are some of the photos from actions happening around the country for Moving Planet – over 120 all in all.  From a Dene drum circle in Yellowknife to a province-wide rally for clean energy in Ontario to a massive bike ride for better transportation policy and climate justice in Vancouver, it was a beautiful and powerful day:

Then on Monday, as a follow-up to the two weeks of non-violent sit-ins in Washington, DC in August to protest the Keystone XL pipeline, Canadian allies held their own sit-in in their capital Monday.  Over 200 activists were arrested in a peaceful demonstration, including union members who work on the tar sands themselves – you can read more from Maude Barlow of the Council of Canadians about the experience here, and see photos below:

As Canada stands at a cross roads between clean energy and the jobs that will accompany it, and more dirty energy in the form of tar sands, fracking, and more, it is encouraging and inspiring to see a powerful citizen's movement working together to ensure a clean energy future and safe climate for all.
